WOPR — an optimiser over the 1983 nuclear posture
A constrained search for the plan that minimises a chosen loss under the planners' own constraints. It improves relentlessly, and the word beside the number is the work.
Given the documented force posture of 1983, a loss function and the constraints the planners lived under, the machine adjusts what they could adjust and keeps whatever lowers the loss. It now also prints what its best plan does to the sky, which its loss function does not carry.
